Bitter, and not apologetic about it. Hella built this can on its own aromatic bitters plus a gentian tincture cultivated in the south of France, then left the sugar out entirely. What you taste is the botanical list working directly, so clove, allspice, rose hips, star anise, chamomile, gentian root, black peppercorn, caraway and cinnamon, all carried on carbonated water. A 12 oz can holds 10 calories and no sugar, and it is vegan and gluten free. Drink it cold before dinner, which is where the aperitif tradition puts it, or use it as the bitter half of a highball with a zero proof gin. Hella started in 2011 with three friends who liked craft cocktails and began by making bitters, so this is the company working in its first language.
