This was Ghia's first bottle that does not lead with bitterness. Strawberry and black currant juice sit up front, date concentrate adds depth, and a base of chamomile and lapsang souchong, the smoky Chinese black tea, is where the tannic grip comes from. Gentian root is still in the mix along with cardamom, honeysuckle, holy basil, clove, orris root and hibiscus, so it stays complex instead of sliding into juice territory. Bold, juicy and tart, with sweet and dry notes that linger and a real mouthfeel behind them. Same format as the original apéritif, a 500ml bottle at 17 servings and 3g of sugar each, zero alcohol. Mix one part to three parts bubbles. It handles tonic especially well, and a squeeze of lemon pulls it back toward dry if the fruit runs sweet for you.
