Bubbly Red Can

Sparkling red is a rare shape even in full-strength wine, which makes this one of the more interesting things Surely has put in a can. The blend is 75 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 25 percent Pinot Noir, alcohol removed and then lightly carbonated. Dark cherry, blackberry, plum and black currant lead, with French oak, baking spice and a faint herbal note sitting underneath, and the finish stays dry despite how jammy the fruit reads. Sweetness here is naturally occurring rather than added, which puts a 250ml can at 35 calories and 4 grams of sugar. Cherry and white grape concentrate round out the fruit. A light chill is what Surely recommends, not a hard one, and the pairings run to pizza, tacos, charcuterie, barbecue and roast pork. Availability has gotten patchy and it isn't listed on Surely's own site right now, so buy it when you see it.
