Soft tannins and low acidity are what make this one work, because the usual failure of alcohol free red is a thin, sharp middle with nothing holding it together. Carl Jung's organic Merlot keeps a deep ruby colour and leads with blackberry, backed by juicy berry fruit and a little herb and spice. Alcohol sits below 0.5 percent. The grapes are organically farmed in Spain with no synthetic fertiliser or pesticides, and the alcohol comes out under vacuum at low temperature so the aromatics are not cooked away. A 100ml glass is about 21 calories. The winery suggests pasta, red meat, grilled dishes or a spiced cheese. Serve it cool rather than at room temperature.
