Glüh'chen

Mulled wine you can drink before driving home. Glüh'chen is built on dealcoholised red wine, roughly 90 percent of the bottle, spiced the way a German Christmas market does it with cinnamon, clove and orange. Carl Jung calls it spicy, full bodied and harmonious, and it wants to be served genuinely hot rather than lukewarm, straight from a pot on the stove. The base wine comes from Spain and goes through the family's patented dealcoholization process, developed in Rüdesheim more than a century ago. That matters more here than in a still wine, because mulled wine gets heated and heat is where thin products fall apart. Roughly 39 calories per 100ml glass, higher than the rest of the range, which is what the sugar and spice extract cost. Carl Jung files it under seasonal specials.
