Coonawarra is a narrow strip in South Australia with a reputation built almost entirely on Cabernet, and Edenvale sources this wine from there rather than blending across regions. Blackcurrant and cedar lead, then blackberry, dark chocolate and a little spice follow across fine tannins to a long finish. It is fermented as a full strength wine first, then dealcoholised to under 0.5 percent, which leaves zero standard drinks and about 21 calories per 150ml serve. Treat it like the real thing when you pour. Cool room temperature around 16 to 18 degrees, a large bowled glass so the aromatics open, and a short decant to soften the tannins. The ingredient list is short, being dealcoholised wine, grape juice concentrate and preservative. It suits roast beef, lamb and hard cheese.
