Mulled wine is usually a winter project involving a pot, a stove and a lot of guesswork. Hearth removes that step. It arrives already spiced, with citrus and red currant fruit running under clove, cinnamon and a herbal edge, built on a dealcoholised wine base with natural flavours added. Warm it gently and it does what mulled wine is supposed to do at a Christmas table or after a cold walk. Chilled, it turns into something else entirely and makes a decent base for summer sangria, which is a more useful trick than the name suggests. Alcohol sits under 0.5 percent, so it is zero standard drinks and fine for anyone driving home. Cheese fondue is the pairing Edenvale suggests, along with pork schnitzel in lemon cream sauce or a slice of apple cake.
