There's a small trick in the glass here. A touch of dissolved CO2 gives this Chardonnay a lift on the palate that dealcoholised whites usually lose, sharpening the freshness against what is otherwise a fairly pronounced sweetness. The colour is pale lemon yellow, the nose starts discreet before apricot, lemon and ripe pineapple arrive, and the finish runs long, sweet and fruity. Vintense makes it in Spain for the Cépage range and positions it against a classic, understated white rather than an oaky one. Serve it cold, between 6 and 8 degrees, as an aperitif or alongside Asian dishes and smoked salmon quiche. It's a true 0.0% rather than a low-alcohol compromise, plus vegan, gluten free and fine during pregnancy, at roughly 18 calories per 100ml. Available in 20cl and 75cl.
