Pinot Noir is the hardest red to make convincingly without alcohol, since so much of what it offers is texture and perfume rather than sheer fruit. Edenvale's Premium Reserve leans on ripe cherry and mulberry, with earthy, savoury notes underneath and fine tannins woven through the palate. The finish is juicy and clean. Fruit comes from selected South Eastern Australian vineyards, fermented into a full wine before the alcohol is taken out to less than 0.5 percent by volume, which registers as zero standard drinks. Its real advantage is range at the table. Pinot Noir handles food that would flatten a bigger red, so this works with duck, seared salmon or tuna, roast white meats, goat's cheese, pate and even fresh spring vegetables.
