Colour is the giveaway here, a pale youthful pink that tells you the wine is built for freshness rather than depth. The aroma runs to rose petal, redcurrant and berries, and the palate follows with strawberry and a clean, balanced aftertaste. Edenvale makes it from selected South Eastern Australian grapes, ferments it as a normal wine, then removes the alcohol to below 0.5 percent, leaving zero standard drinks. Rosé earns its keep by being hard to pair badly. Spicy food is the standout, since the fruit takes the edge off heat, and it also handles white meats, pasta, soft cheeses, antipasti and a plate of fresh fruit. Serve it cold and drink it young, because this style does not reward keeping.
